Salary: $15.00-$20.00 per hour

The Personal Trainer – Group Fitness Specialist position exists to provide students with a safe and effective environment for physical activity by offering open individual and group fitness classes. Additionally, this position will oversee the group fitness efforts of all of the Personal Trainers by providing scheduling, handling participant registration, and directing the marketing for all offered group fitness programming.

This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week.   

Essential Functions 

  • Monitor users of the fitness center for safe practices and respond to potential life-threatening situations.
  • First responder to accidents and incidents for emergencies.
  • Orient students/staff to fitness center equipment and procedures.
  • Advise users on how to use equipment and safe practices for exercises.
  • Advise users on how to create a workout routine based on individual goals.
  • Sweep/vacuum the floor and wipe down equipment.
  • Provide simple maintenance to equipment as appropriate.
  • Assist with department events.
  • Create programming for students including group options and personal training.
  • Interview users who want personal training advice and keep records confidential.
  • Assist instruction as needed to provide appropriate learning environment.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Open and close the fitness center and associated requirements.
  • General knowledge of fitness practices, including group fitness structure and implementation.
  • Solution-oriented in resolving customer service concerns.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Enforce fitness center regulations when users are not compliant.
  • Prioritize participants safety.
  • Familiarity with Pikes Peak State College resources and campus.
  • Knowledge of PPSC courses/programs that are held in the Fitness Center.
  • Exceptional professionalism, dependability, and communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed high School Diploma/GED.
  • Active CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Complete National Fitness Certification within 6 months of hire.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds from the ground and able to lift 100 pounds from an elevated position (squat).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Personal trainer and group fitness certification.
  • General knowledge of safe exercise practice.
  • Experience in a fitness center environment.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.
